Side events

A visit to one of the many side events will complete your experience at the Invictus Games The Hague 2020 presented by Jaguar Land Rover.

More than just sports

The Invictus Games is, in many ways, more than a sporting event only. The event, from the 9th to 16th May 2020, will be a memorable week for all participants, their family and friends and the public.

In and around the Zuiderpark, an extensive program of sporting competition will be provided as well as of music, entertainment, sport clinics, lectures and demonstrations. Of course, there will also be a large and varied catering offer. Many of these side events will be free to access, so a visit to the Invictus Games The Hague 2020 to support those competing will therefore have even more to entertain you.

The Zuiderpark is the centre of the Invictus Games The Hague 2020 and will be renamed The Invictus Games Park during the week of the event. The park will host a special events area where most of the side events will be held. Various sports federations will provide clinics and demonstrations on sports courts, the Ministry of Defence will present itself in spectacular fashion to the public and there will be (music) performances throughout the week. In addition, several events will be held at the open-air theatre, around the main competition stadium, the athletics track and in the Sports Campus. In particular when competitions aren’t taking place in the sports venues, there will be plenty of entertainment in the Zuiderpark.

The mix of sports and side events will create a unique, vibrant and welcoming atmosphere in the Zuiderpark. This atmosphere will make those visiting from other nations  feel at home, and hopefully will pleasantly surprise you, as a visitor and supporter, too!

Music

Music will have a strong presence in the week program. Not only because music increases the atmosphere of joy and happiness, but also there is evidence that for many participants in the Invictus Games, and their family and friends, music has an important role to play in their rehabilitation process.

Sports

Many of the side events have a sporty character. Various national sports federations will be present with mobile sports fields. The Johan Cruyff Foundation, for example, will be in attendance  with a special Cruyff Court for athletes with a disability.

Ministry of Defence

The national open days of the armed forces have always been extremely popular. During the Games there will be a special program involving several elements of the open days. The different services of the armed forces will present themselves with equipment, displays and demonstrations to the public.

Five themes

During the Games, many days will have specific themes reflected within the side events. These themes will influence the choice of lectures, performances, the dressing of locations and musical performances.

The themes are currently focused around:

·       75 years of freedom,
·       The Netherlands/The Hague,
·       Service personnel,
·       Being inspired,
·       and Family & Friends.
