On the Steenwijklaan in the Escamp district, The Hague, a new and special Cruyff Court was officially opened on 23 September 2020. Frank Rijkaard, ambassador of the Cruyff Foundation for many years, came to perform the opening act together with sports alderman of The Hague, Hilbert Bredemeijer and Dutch Team Invictus Games competitor Ronald van Dort. Pupils from the surrounding schools were also present for sports activities at the Cruyff Court. The opening was part of the Cruyff Foundation Open Day On Tour, which was held nationwide.
The new Cruyff Court
Originally, this new Cruyff Court was to be opened during and in honor of the Invictus Games The Hague 2020. Of course, this could not take place last spring as expected, but the Court was built anyway and is already being used.
This accessible Cruyff Court is located between schools and next to the sports facilities of HKV / Ons Eibernest. Pupils from the Piramide College, the Viertaal College, OBS De Wissel and residents from the neighbourhood can use the field every day. This multi-functional Cruyff Court is also special because of the construction of, in addition to the now well-known field, a panna football field, a bump course for wheelchair users and an adjustable basket on the terrain next to it.
By adjusting the fencing next to the school, the field is better accessible and because of the bumpy course and the improvement of the surface towards the Cruyff Court, rollers can now easily drive to the field independently.
