The vfonds becomes Founding Partner of the Invictus Games The Hague 2020 for 2 million euros

Moment of signing

The Dutch National Foundation for Peace, Freedom and Veteran Care (vfonds) and the Foundation Power of Freedom signed for a partnership with the Invictus Games The Hague 2020 presented by Jaguar Land Rover, last Thursday May 9. This makes that vfonds will become a Founding Partner of the event just like the Ministry of Defence.

The Invictus Games The Hague 2020 is an international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans. The Games use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect of all those who serve their country. This goal fits in perfectly with the vfonds, which since its establishment has been committed to the recognition and appreciation of veterans and service men. The vfonds supports with 2 million euros. In the year the Netherlands celebrates 75 years of freedom and realizes that peace and freedom is not a matter of course, this message is possibly more visible than ever.

The Chairman of the Foundation of The Invictus Games The Hague 2020, General b.d. Mart de Kruif: “The Invictus Games offers an incredible opportunity to honor the wounded and injured servicemen who served our country. These role models show us that the strength of the human mind is invincible. Due to the support of the vfonds and by emulating the same goal, forces can be joined and so many people can be reached.”

The Chairman of the Board of Directors vfonds Robert Croll: “The vfonds is honored to be able to contribute, as a Founding Partner of The Invictus Games The Hague 2020. To reach the goals of freedom and democracy, literal fights were necessary and had to be fought, with unfortunately servicemen getting wounded and injured during the process. Servicemen, who risked their lives for our freedom, deserve all the respect and support. Sport is an incredible motivation for veterans who were injured. During the Invictus Games, they can show everyone that they are invincible.”

Bib van Lanschot, founder of the BNMO and the vfonds, already said: “You are defeated, only when you quit yourself. Besides the Invictus Games in 2020 for veterans, the vfonds will also support the World Police and Fire Games in 2021, locating in the Netherlands. Because we are convinced that peace and security can only be served by cooperation between all services in charge of our safety. In the world, and in our country.”

More about the vfonds
Every year the vfonds (the National Foundation for Peace, Freedom and Veteran Care) makes more than two hundred special or innovative initiatives possible within the theme Peace and Freedom. This is possible because of the contributions made by the ‘Nationale Postcode Loterij’, the ‘BankGiro Loterij’ and the Dutch Lottery. Since our establishment, we have been committed to the recognition and appreciation of veterans and servicemen. In addition, we continue to encourage people to work for peace, democracy and the international legal order. To this day, we experience that freedom cannot be taken for granted. That is why it is important that people are encouraged to do this. Investing in peace: important for everyone!
