5 million for Invictus Games

The Ministry of Defense is giving the Power of Freedom Foundation a 5 million euro grant for the Invictus Games in 2022. Minister Ank Bijleveld-Schouten signed an agreement to this effect today with the chairman of the foundation and former army commander Lieutenant-General b.d. Mart de Kruif.

The money is needed because the organizer had to cancel the sporting event 2 times shortly before it was to take place due to the pandemic. The Invictus Games are largely dependent on the continued additional support of national and international sponsors, who have agreed to continue their contribution.

The minister is happy to contribute to the important event. “We ask a lot of our military personnel. We must therefore take good care of them. Participation in the Invictus Games fits in with that. As a tribute to the sacrifices of our veterans, and those from other countries, the Ministry of Defense supports the organization of the Invictus Games in 2022 in the Netherlands again.”

The Invictus Games will begin exactly one year from today.
